Looking for guidance on the CMS stance regarding reuse?

The issue can be summarized in a simple statement:

“Facilities must adhere to each manufacturer’s Directions for Use (DFU) for any device.”

· If a manufacturer has indicated that a device is for single-use only, facilities must dispose of it immediately after use or independently validate that the device is suitable for multi-use.

· If a manufacturer has indicated that a device is approved and validated for multi-use, simply follow the instructions for care, cleaning and sterilization as provided in the device’s DFU.
